THE BOOKS

“DOESN’T HAVE WINGS? DOESN’T HAVE WINGS!” The man with the shrieking voice erupted with a vehemence that echoed throughout the room. “And yet, you dear bring her here!”

I didn’t know I’d backed away until his hand circled my waist pulled me forward. He bent his back just enough to have his face right up to mine. You must stay close now.” He had a voice that I couldn’t understand. If I hadn’t seen his lips move, I would have thought it was the rumble of thunder in the distance. Between that, his eyes and his hand sending scorching sensations down my back, my mind skipped the reason I ended up off the ground and in his hands.

Chills screamed down my spine. I wriggled and fought desperately to slip from his clutches, until I was panting and shaking with the effort so had to stop, out of breath. It was only then I noticed, the hands holding me seemed hardly to be holding me at all. The grip was very gentle, careful despite my struggling.
